20s Tea

In January, Nan and I attended a Tea at the Adolphus hotel. This event was sponsored by the DFW Costumer's guild so we were encouraged to come in costume! No specific time period was given. So, due to the simplicity of the garments and the ability to wear them to dances, I chose to make our outfits in the 20s style.

The pattern was Festive Attyre's one hour dress pattern; Simple and easy with the option to modify slightly. For fabric I bought some simple broadcloth in a nice purple and blue and then used stashed trims and buttons.

For Nan's dress I used the blue with some slightly off white lace to simulate a collar and buttons.

I pleated the sides of the skirt, then added the sash, and buttons on the sleeves.

Here's the dress semi completed (it's missing the sash)

For my dress I used the purple with a rose lace for the collar trim.

My dress has random pleats and a side sash to make it look different then Nan's.

I fussy cut two roses and added them to the sleeves and I was done!

Nan wore a pearl necklace and I paired my dress with a pearl necklace (left over from my book club's 20s theme Christmas party dress) and a green vintage broach.

The tea itself was so much fun! The hotel is an older one in Dallas (early 1900s I think) and it was beautiful! The food was great too! We had a different tea for each course. They started with sandwiches, then a scone, and finally dessert!
